San Francisco.

I can’t believe it’s been over 7 months since i’ve written for my personal enjoyment. I wish I could say I didn’t notice, but I honestly think about writing everyday. And, even though I have terrible sleeping habits by sleeping late and waking up early (yeah i’m aware…) there still isn’t enough time in my day to do so. Alas. What can you do?

Every year, I realize that getting older is simply an art of making choices in the midst of those available to you. It’s a talent that unfortunately takes a lot of time to perfect, but when you do i’d argue that’s really when you’re at your strongest. Because making the right choices at the right time most often always comes at a cost of something that’s somewhat significantly valuable. And, sometimes that’s sacrificing a place, a person, or a feeling that you love for another greater love at the moment. I loved New York City, but my greater love has always been winning. Not necessarily winning against another, but winning at something (more likely a collection of things) worth etching my name on. In San Francisco, I have the latter. And, while I don’t particularly love talking about work, I absolutely love the work I get to lead. Irrespective of the obnoxious hours, and my absolute exhaustion, it’s a really unique opportunity to be building something I am incredibly proud of. There’s no doubt in my mind that I made the right decision, because it got me to where I wanted to be faster than I ever intended. But, even with that confidence I would be lying if I didn’t miss New York everyday. There was a time when my previous work voted against it, but I made the choice to move there anyways. I spent months living in random apartments, until I found my dream one in Chelsea. It really just is that life presents different choices that speak to different desires of yours, and it’s up to you to make the right decision at the time it’s available. If I play my cards, like I think I am, then hopefully it’s all worth it. Just bear with me. Hopefully, my choices give me the ability to write as I wish to.

With Love, Fiza Usman
